Words From Liz & Ronan

Tell me about your "The Beginning!"

Amidst a global pandemic, we found ourselves living in Brisbane, despite this not being part of 'the plan' for either of us at the time. Christmas in July 2020, after a month of getting to know each other through voice notes, childish jokes and exchanging photos of dogs, we finally went on our first date. From the moment we met, everything made sense. No doubt, no hesitation, not even any awkward feelings when we realised that we had accidentally booked a night at an intimate wedding venue for our third date. The universe brought us together, the right time and the right place so that we could find our perfect person, to help each other grow into the people we were always meant to become.

When and where did you get engaged?

On holiday in Tasmania. 31st August 2021 - we were campervanning around Tassie, we stopped off in Freycinet NP and hiked to Wine Glass Bay. Ronan had packed a bottle of red (we are big red lovers and it was winter) and pulled it out once we had arrived at the beach, he said 'we can't come to wine glass bay and not have a glass of wine!'. After a while of sitting and enjoying the crashing waves, Ronan said he wanted to go see what was on the other side of the boulders at the end of the beach. I didn't really want to, but he insisted. After clambering up onto the boulders Ronan dropped to one knee and pulled out a ring box. He opened it up (at this point I'm crying but also scared he's going to drop it between the boulders!) and says "Liz, you mean more to me than anything else in this world. I absolutely cherish every second that we spend together and I want to spend every second of the rest of my life with you. Will you take the next step in becoming fucking lovely (an in joke) and Elizabeth Heather Thomas will you marry me?" I of course immediately said yes and continued to cry. We enjoyed the moment a while and then started the accent back up 1000 steps towards the hiking trail. Normally I would have had a good whinge about going up that many steps but I practically skipped up them. We had no phone signal for a couple of days so we just lived in a bubble of bliss before letting our parents know a couple of days later. My parents live in the UK, and will be meeting Ronan for the first time in person this Friday (3rd March 2023) but he has put in the effort to build up a wonderful relationship with them across facetime and whatsapp over the past few years, and even secretly facetimed them in 2021 to gain their permission to ask for my hand in marriage.

What style/theme have you chosen for your Wedding Day?

Happy and fun garden party vibes. We don't take anything too seriously so there isn't a hardcore theme. We are just enjoying celebrating with our favourite people, enjoying good food and drinks, and a band that play great famous songs in a mariachi style.

What are you most looking forward to on the day?

Saying "I Do" to the love of my life surrounded by many of my loved ones. This wedding (and the weeks running up to it) is the first time I will have seen my family in 4 years, and our wedding is very much an opportunity to bond our families together.

Top Tips!

Be realistic on costs - don't spend money you don't have, prioritise what is important to you and spend the bulk of your budget on those items. Everything else can be done on a budget. For us, having a fun atmosphere and the right style of photographer were most important to us, so we prioritised our band, drinks budget, and photographer. The perfect recipe for a great party
